The Honduran Football Federation commented on the aggression suffered by Javier Aguirre, coach of the Mexican national football team, during the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Concacaf Nations League. The statement lamented and condemned the isolated actions of a small group of Honduran fans, clarifying that they do not represent the entire fanbase of the country.
Initially, the Federation expressed its rejection of the aggression suffered by Aguirre, but also pointed out that Vasco provoked and incited violence with his attitude during the game. They criticized the words, obscene gestures, and provocative behavior of the Mexican coach, indicating that such behaviors are unacceptable in football and represent an incitement to violence.
Additionally, the Honduran Football Federation requested Concacaf to punish Javier Aguirre for his behavior, as they believe that as a public figure he should be an example of education and good conduct in sports.
During the match, local fans insulted and threw objects at Aguirre, which caused the coach to respond to the spectators with an obscene gesture at one point. At the end of the match, a can thrown from the stands hit the head of the Honduran coach, Reinaldo Rueda, causing him a wound and profuse bleeding, which went viral on social media.
